The Science of Learning Research Centre would like to invite you to attend the following seminar:
HOW THE BRAIN USES FEEDBACK: INFORMING EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN EDUCATION
Models of learning based upon research from neuroscience and cognitive psychology emphasise the importance of feedback and its comparison to prior expectations (prediction error). Education research has highlighted feedback as a critical feature of effective teaching. The current presentation will provide an overview of the cognitive neuroscience research and examples of how it might be used to inform education practices around feedback, particularly in relation to the teaching of spelling.
Rob Hester is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Melbourne. His research utilises cognitive neuroscience methods (e.g., functional MRI and EEG) to examine the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying executive function, including aspects such as performance monitoring (learning from errors) and cognitive control (impulsivity).
