This project will investigate the foundations of learner confusion, particularly as it manifests in digital, self-directed learning environments. Through a series of empirical studies in laboratories and the experimental classrooms of the Science of Learning Research Centre, this research will establish whether predictive models of learner confusion can be established for complex online learning tasks.
This understanding will provide the basis for two inter-related streams of applied research. The first will focus on determining when learners should be provided with remediation and feedback while the second will focus on how and when scaffolds can be provided to learners in order to support and promote their self directed learning.
